Battalion S-8: Finance

c/1LT Rylie Richards

Hi, I'm First Lieutenant Rylie Richards, and I will be the S-8, Financial Officer for the 2026-2027 School Year. As S-8, my responsibilities are keeping track of our Accounts and Budget. I will be preparing, tracking, and submitting the Fundraisers, Events, and Competitions requisitions. Managing their costs and expenses, and turning in all IMIN sheets. All Fundraisers are run by me. It is my responsibility to explain and run the Fundraiser to the best of my abilities to make it easier for the Cadets to participate. Any Event or Competition registration, snacks, or extra expenses are my job to get paid for and ready ahead of time for the upcoming date. My overall responsibility throughout the year is to make sure our finances last us all year and leave us with extra left to start the next school year off smoothly. In my free time, I love to bake, cook, shop, go to church, and read. My favorite things to bake are brownies and haystacks, especially when it's for my friends. I love dress shopping, though I never actually buy anything; it’s fun to find different dresses that look cute. My favorite books are the Junie B Jones series and Marine Biology Study Books.

JROTC Career

My Jrotc career didn't start like most. While others were offered, "rewarded", or requested a spot, in my first week in the program, they said they were looking for people to fill in spots. So I raised my hand, and they gave me squad leader. The weeks following the current S-1 were looking for an assistant, and I said I would do it, no request sheet, no interview, nothing, just said the word, and they gave me the position. I was offered to take over for the S-1 at the time, but I felt that with my lack of training, I wouldn't fit the role, and gave it to the second in line for the position. I've been in the program every year at Kearny, and in 2 of those years I was a squad leader. I love it. First semester of the 2025-2026 school year, they put out staff position requests, and I filled one out. I am not proudly the S-8.

Academics

My Academic journey started at Stewart Elementary in Huntsville, Texas. After my Kindergarten year, I moved to Reeves Elementary in Conroe, Texas. I spent my First and Second grade years there. I transferred to Ford Elementary to finish my last 2 years of Elementary School. I lived in an area where we had an Intermediate School(5th-6th), and I stayed there until halfway through my 6th grade year hen I moved out to California and joined Taft Middle. I finished middle school and came to Kearny. I am now a Junior and will be finishing my 4th year here at Kearny.
