Battalion S-8: Finance

c/CPT Marcus Byrne

Hey! I’m c/CPT Marcus Byrne. I’m a DMD junior and Kearny AJROTC’s S8. As the S8, I manage our finances, which includes requesting purchases, managing fundraisers, and keeping us on budget. It's a decent amount of work, when you consider that money makes the world go around. This is my second year on staff. Outside of JROTC, I have quite a few hobbies. I enjoy baking, reading, writing, drawing, painting, and creating outfits. I’m also an actor in Kearny’s theater club. I do my hair myself- cutting and coloring, and I change the color about once a month. Despite all these things I like to do, I spend most of my time on instagram.

JROTC Career

I entered AJROTC in 2023, my freshman year. I was a private until the end of my freshman year, when I applied to be a staff assistant. I was initially hired as the S1 assistant and promoted to master sergeant. In September of 2024 I was promoted to captain and became the S8, and that’s where I still am now. I’ve done a few teams. In my freshman year, I joined UDT, ADT and color guard. In my sophomore year I dropped ADT, but did regulation, and colorguard. As a junior I hope to rejoin ADT, and I am the current color guard team captain. Out of the teams I’ve joined, color guard definitely influenced me the most. If I hadn’t joined colorguard, I probably wouldn’t care as much about the program as I do now.

Academics

I went to a private catholic elementary school. Would not recommend. I transferred to the public school system in 6th grade. I had a rough time with academics before highschool, but now I take a lot of pride in my grades. When choosing a small school, I knew it had to be Digital Media & Design for me. I have a great love for the arts. I’m an honor roll student.
